Morningstar Equity Data collects data for over 45,000 public companies. The datasets include Fundamental data and many Non-Fundamental datasets such as Company Profiles, Industry Classification, Corporate Actions and Pricing. The data feeds PitchBook platform as well as all other Morningstar products. The Mumbai Equity Data Operations team (Equity team) has grown rapidly in the last two years and is about 950 employees strong. To continue to maintain this growth and further deepen the breadth and coverage of the database, we are expanding our Equity Strategy & Research team.  

Job Description

• Strategy & Research team is responsible for Research, Scoping and Sizing of new datasets in Equity Data and contributes to the development of medium and long-term Strategies for the growth of Equity Data. 
• As a member of the Strategy & Research management team you will be responsible to lead a small team of Researchers and guide the team achieve its objectives of contributing to the growth of new datasets within Morningstar Equity Data. 
• The selected candidate will play a critical role in laying the research groundwork for the new projects in research and scoping pipeline and help create Scoping documents with detailed analysis and estimates. 
• This role offers unique opportunity of working on a project from the conceptual to the product release stage and interact, coordinate with stakeholders from Operations, Methodology, Technology and Project Sponsors. 

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and developing a small team of Research Analysts by providing clear direction and establishing SMART goals
• Closely monitor the research and scoping progress on the various projects in the research pipeline and communicate the progress to all stakeholders
• Should be able to research complex subject areas leading to actionable recommendations and solutions to meet project requirements
• Work closely with multiple stakeholders from Operations, Technology and Methodology to help take forward the project from Scoping to Collection and Product release stage
• Ability to work with unstructured data and deal with client requests that are not fully defined
• Provides coaching and training to team members as appropriate, help them master research skills and gain productivity
• Direct analysts in identifying the information sources for new datasets and list the data items needed to meet product requirements.
• Work with internal stakeholders to gain inputs for designing a comprehensive Scoping document that meets the project delivery expectations
• Stay up to date with the Accounting\Financial reporting Standard revisions and should be able to handle questions on the defined scope and underlying research
• Develop expert level knowledge of the PitchBook platform, Morningstar products and should be able to suggest ideas for new data/functionality that can be offered on these platforms/products.

Qualification, Experience & Skills Required

Skills & Knowledge Required

• Proven research skills and ability to play with unstructured data
• Good knowledge on SQL databases and ability to pull data from different sources
• Expertise on Equity Data Content and a good understanding of Morningstar and Pitchbook data platforms
• Ability to interpret data, derive insights and give good presentations

Education Qualification

Bachelor / Master’s degree in Finance / Accounting - with an exceptional academic record

Candidates with CA/CFA professional background will be preferred

Experience Required

5 + years of professional work experience at various levels of seniority

Prior experience of leading teams and keeping the team highly motivated

Location & Reporting

This position will be based in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

This position will report to Senior Manager, Equity Data Strategy.
